Mrs. Jennifer Ann Myers, a judge at Koforidua High Court 1, has issued a temporary injunction on an 860-acre cocoa farm in Akyem Asafo, Eastern Region of Ghana. The land was slated for allocation to the Ghana Armed Forces for a military base, with an additional 10 acres allegedly earmarked for illegal mining.

Farmers contesting the move believe it to be unlawful, prompting the court’s intervention. Both parties have until May 24th, 2024, to provide necessary documentation regarding land tenure systems.

Lawyer Robert Twini, representing affected farmers, briefed the media at the court premises. The case has been adjourned to May 24th, 2024.

Professor Michael Kwarteng, head of anti-illegal mining for the cocoa board, expressed gratitude for the court’s intervention, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law and protecting the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
